Specification For A Broad Spectrum,
Low Toxicity Germicidal Detergent

  1. Must have an acceptable cleaning efficiency at the recommended dilution ratio.


  2. Must be registered under current Environmental Protection Agency rules for registration of a germicidal detergent (DIS/TSS-2 Jan. 25, 1979) as a one-step cleaner disinfectant.


  3. The product must be germicidal, fungicidal, virucidal and tuberculocidal simultaneously in the presence of hard water (400 ppm as calcium carbonate) and organic soil (5% blood serum), i.e., is a one step cleaner disinfectant as defined by EPA (DIS/TSS-2, Jan. 25, 1979).


  4. The concentrate must not be orally toxic as the term is defined by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA). That is, it must have an acute Oral LD50 above 5 g/kg of body weight.


  5. The concentrate must not be a primary skin irritant as the term is defined by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA). No recommended use dilution shall produce a primary skin irritation level no greater than “0” when tested in conformity with the Health Effects Guidelines proposed by the EPA (August, 1982).


  6. Must have a flash point above 150º F. and must be labeled in accordance with current EPA labeling requirements. Requires no special handling/storage with regard to flash point.


  7. No products supplied under this specification shall contain mercury, peroxides, formaldehyde, para-tertiary-amylphenol and/or para-tertiary-butylphenol.


  8. After dilution, the product must remain stable and effective for a minimum period of three months.
