Specification for a
Ready to Use Germicidal Detergent

  1. The product must have an acceptable cleaning efficiency.


  2. Dilution stability studies must be approved and on file with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The product must have a stable shelf life of at least three months.


  3. Must be germicidal, fungicidal, tuberculocidal and virucidal in the presence of organic soil (5% blood serum), i.e., is a one step cleaner disinfectant as defined by EPA (DIS/TSS-2, Jan. 25, 1979).


  4. The EPA approved label will require no precautionary statement other than “KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN”.


  5. The product shall have a primary skin irritation level no greater than “0” when tested in conformity with the Health Effects Guidelines proposed by the EPA (August, 1982).


  6. The primary eye irritation level when tested in conformity with the Health Effects Guidelines proposed by the EPA (August, 1982) shall be described as category IV.


  7. The product shall have no flash point to boiling.


  8. No products supplied under this specification shall contain mercury, peroxides, formaldehyde, glycol ether, para-tertiary-amylphenol and/or para-tertiary-butylphenol (these two phenols have been associated with depigmentation of human skin when contained in germicidal detergents used in a normal routine manner, scientifically studied by Dr. Guinter Kahn, published in Arch Derm, Vol. 102, August 1970, cited in APIC Guidelines for selection and use of disinfectants, August, 1996, and NIOSH Guidelines for Protecting the Safety and Health of Health Care Workers).


  9. The product must be biodegradable, and shall contain no phosphates for protection of the ground water.
